Samantha Dangerfield, Deputy Chair of Governors
I am the Vicar of Aylsham and part of that role is to deepen and develop the links between the town schools school and the Parish Church. I was a governor at Bure Valley School (4 years) and Aylsham High School (3 years) before joining the Governing Board of the Aylsham Learning Federation. I am also a foundation governor. at St Michael’s Church of England VA Infant & Nursery School. I have served on 9 different governing bodies over the last 15 years. I am particularly interested in creative ideas in education; learning outside the classroom and of course prayer, spirituality and worship in schools. I have a background in business administration and finance.
I am the elected staff governor for the Aylsham Learning Federation and joined the board in 2017. I currently teach Year 3 at Bure Valley School as well as being Computing subject leader. I completed my degree in Primary Education at the University of Hertfordshire and have previously also worked as a private guitar tutor.
I have been a governor for the Aylsham Learning Federation since September 2015. I have been employed by Norfolk Constabulary for the past 10 years. For the past 4 years I have been based within Public Protection Unit. I am responsible for managing sex offenders and violent offenders in the community. I find the work extremely fulfilling and take great pride in trying to make Norfolk a safer place to live. I have 2 young children and I want them to get the best education possible and this was a significant factor in me volunteering to become a school governor. I currently sit on the Curriculum and Assessment committee on the governing body, as this is an area I have particular interest in. I want to play a part in enhancing teaching and learning within the school.
Seamus Elliott (MBA, FCIPD, MHSM):
I have been a Governor of AHS for more than 15 years. After 18 years as a Director in the NHS, I now do some part-time consultancy for public sector organisations. Living in Banningham, I currently chair the HR and PD committee of ALF and am a member of the Steering Group.
Sam Dangerfield BA (Hons); MSc:
I am an experienced teacher and senior leader, having spent over 19 years providing the vision and leadership required to ensure high quality education for all pupils. I am currently working as an education consultant supporting middle and senior leaders with school improvement and as a progression specialist, working one to one with sixth form students, supporting them through the university application process. I returned to Aylsham with my husband eleven years ago and now have two daughters and I am keen to ensure that all children in Aylsham have the best possible education.
I have lived in Norfolk with my husband, Simon, for the past 20 years and we have two daughters who attend AHS. I have worked within education for 15 years in various local High Schools, Adult Education and also with the Educational Psychology and Support Service. I am passionate about supporting young people with a Special Educational Need or Disability, working together with parents and other professionals to help enable them to reach their full potential. It is a real privilege to be part of the ALF Governing body and to serve our community in this way. I also love going on holiday and hot curries!
I am the Cluster Family Learning Co-ordinator, within my role I represent Aylsham Learning Federation and The Aylsham Cluster Trust as Chair for The Aylsham Business & Enterprise Forum. My two grown up children attended John of Gaunt Infant & Nursery School, Bure Valley School and Aylsham High School.
I am passionate about offering opportunities for families to experience learning opportunities together alongside a programme of courses for parents/carers to support their families through the challenges of raising their families on a day to day basis.
I have two children, a daughter who is in year 5 at Bure Valley School and a son who is in year 7 at Aylsham High School. I became a parent governor when the Aylsham Learning Federation was formed having previously been a governor at Bure Valley School since 2014. I joined the governing body because like all parents I want the best for my children and am passionate about their education. I have lived locally all my life. Before having my son I worked as a legal secretary in Aylsham and now assist my husband with the running of a small business.
I am a local businessman running a specialist marketing agency. I live in Colby. I am also a governor at Aldborough Primary School, another school in the Aylsham Cluster. Victor Morgan, BA, PhD, FRHistS:
I have had an academic career, mainly at UEA, but also with periods at Princeton and the Johns Hopkins University in the USA.
During that time, I have acquired various distinctions, including amongst other things, Harkness, AHRC, and Leverhulme Fellowships.
As an academic I spent decades running aspects of the University’s disciplinary system and worked for two years in the area of student welfare. Latterly I have worked for the Centre for Staff and Educational Development, involved with the training of new academics. I am also involved on the fringes of local politics.
As an Aylsham Learning Federation Governor my special interest is in increasing attainment and the number of high flyers. This is not limited to academic attainment: I believe strongly that the diversity of aptitudes and talents amongst pupils and students need to be recognised. This needs to start at the earliest possible age. In this context, I am an advocate for practical areas such as resistant materials and creative work in the arts and drama. I also believe that one of the key roles of our local schools is to widen horizons by getting students out of the classroom and providing them with extra-curricular activities.
I first became a Governor at Aylsham Middle School over 20 years ago, was Chair of Governors during the turbulent transition to Bure Valley Junior School in 2001 and continued to support the school for the next 3 years through the first Ofsted Inspection. Since then I have worked as a TA with SEN students at Sheringham Sixth Form and subsequently as a Student Manager at Sheringham High School managing the Pastoral care of children with social, emotional and behavioural needs, so was appointed as Safeguarding Governor. As the Leader of 3rd Aylsham Guides meeting at BVS for the last 25 years, it has been a joy to see so many young people grow and thrive in our good Aylsham schools.
Returning to BVS following the new build to serve a new Governing Board has been a very interesting new chapter. Working in partnership with Aylsham High School, with their expertise in Business Management and Finance as well as Teaching and Learning , we quickly discovered that together we were stronger and Aylsham Learning Federation was founded. At that time I was appointed as Vice Chair to the Business Management and Finance Committee of the ALF.
I have been a parent governor since 2010, and I am vice chairman of ALF Curriculum, Assessment, and Achievement Committee with a special responsibility as the link governor for Pupil Premium.
I utilise my skills, time, and commitment to help drive school improvement and contribute to effective governance and the success of Aylsham Learning Federation. Committed to ALF’s vision and ethos, I bring the necessary passion and ambition to our governing board with the aim of tirelessly striving to make a positive difference to the life chances of children/young people attending ALF. Always willing to ask questions and offer appropriate challenge and support to achieve desired aims and objectives.
Prior to becoming a governor at the ALF I was a governor at AHS for around 12 years. I am responsible for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)and safeguarding.
I am a partner in our family farming business and a qualified nurse. I am married and have 2 children, one of whom has special educational needs and attended AHS.
I have been a involved as a Governor in Aylsham since 2005 when I was inspired to apply for a parent Governor vacancy at Bure Valley School, particularly, as I was a former pupil. I progressed to the Chair of Governors, the position of which, I held for four years. Other previous experience includes premises and finance committees, as well as consultations to join the Aylsahm Cluster Trust. Currently on the HR committee with the ALF.
I have been a governor of Aylsham High School for many years and was heavily involved with the formation of the Aylsham Learning Federation. I am married to a local farmer with one son. I have worked as an agronomist and helped to run the family hotel, and now concentrate on my holiday house business. I enjoy sailing, skiing, tennis, gardening, cooking and flower arranging.

The governors are the strategic leaders of our school and have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education. Governing bodies should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding the Executive Head and Head of School to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
